India ready to train Oman’s air force

Dubai, January 10: India has offered to help Oman maintain and upgrade its military aircraft and give technical training to its air force in electronics and communications as part of efforts to bolster defence cooperation between the two countries.

The offer was made by Air Chief S Krishnaswamy during talks he had with Omani defence officials in Muscat where he is currently on a visit at the

invitation of Air Vice-Marshal Yahya Bin Rasheed al-Juma, commander of the Royal Air Force of Oman.

Krishnaswamy, leading a high level delegation, also met Omani Minister for Defence Affairs Sayyid Bader Bin Saud Bin Harib al-Busaidi and the officiating chief of staff of the Sultan's armed forces during his January 6-11 visit to the Sultanante.

India and oman, who have traditionally close ties in the defence, discussed ways and means to further bolster the relations and to hold regular

bilateral consultation. Indian Ambassador to Oman Talmiz Ahmed was also present at the meetings.

Krishnaswamy also visited key defence installations in Oman. He was on Saturday

visiting Thumrait, a major airbase with American and British presence, which monitors movement of aircraft in the region.
