Pope to meet Musharraf next week

Vatican City, September 24: Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf will have an audience with Pope John Paul II on September 30, the Vatican announced on Friday.

The Pope has met two other Pakistani leaders, the late President Zia-ul-Haq in 1982 and the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1998, but this will be his first meeting with Musharraf.

The Pope is also to receive Romanian President Ion Iliescu on Thursday, the Vatican said.
