While refusing to comment against the Cabinet decision, CPM spokesman Mohd Salim said the party will take a stand when the concerned Bill is debated in Parliament.

Salim said while his party remained committed to quota for all category among SCs and STs including the creamy layer, its policy on OBCs was different.

The spokesman said his party did not subscribe to the view expressed in some quarters that providing quota to the higher strata of OBC category would help in creating icons that will augur well for the people in these groups.
