Karachi, February 27: Pakistan police beefed up security at a Karachi jail on Wednesday after an anonymous phone call threatened a rocket attack if the man accused of being the ringleader of the kidnapping of US reporter Daniel Pearl was extradited, police sources said.

Sources said the phone call was received late on Tuesday and the caller had threatened an attack on the detention centre if Pakistan's military-led government bowed to a US demand to extradite British-born militant Omar Sheikh.

"We have received a threatening phone call... and we have beefed up security around the detention centre as a precautionary measure," said a police official, who declined to be named.
