New Delhi, April 19: India has prohibited trade of arms and related material with Iraq, besides banning exchange of equipment and technology that can contribute to nuclear programmes with North Korea and Iran.
The prohibition, notified in the annual supplement to the Foreign Trade Policy, are in come with the UN Security Council's resolution.
The decision to ban trade in nuclear-programme related items with North Korea comes ahead of the May one visit of that country's Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hyong Jun to India.
The government has prohibited direct and indirect export and import of materials, goods and technology which could contribute to North Korea's nuclear, ballistic missile or other weapons of mass destruction-related programmes.
Jun, during his visit, would meet with his Indian counterpart in the first such high level contact between the two countries since Pyongyang conducted nuclear tests last October.
North Korean nuclear issue may also come up for discussion during the meeting in the backdrop of the atomic tests conducted by the Communist country on October 9, 2006.India had joined the international community in deploring the tests.
New Delhi, through its annual supplement to FTP, also notified a ban on trade of arms and related items with Iraq, while the prohibition on all kinds of export and import of items, materials, goods and technology that could contribute to nuclear programme in Iran has already been announced.
