I was victimised, says Pandit
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, May 1: Madhya Pradesh cricket captain Chandrakant Pandit said the
action against him by the Central Zone selection committee chairman Kishen
Rungta was ``unfair, arbitrary and amounts to victimisation, particularly
when other selectors were not consulted.''
In his letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary
Jagmohan Dalmiya, Pandit explained his version on his controversial removal
after the tied Deodhar Trophy match against West here on January 3 by saying
that ``he (Rungta) advised me to declare myself unfit when, I was not at all
unfit.''
According to his letter, he was subsequently informed that the selection
committee was told he was dropped on cricketing grounds, ``but if I tender
apology to the satisfaction of the chairman, I will be included in the
team.''
Pandit adds: ``In my view, this sets up a very bad precedent, as by this
method any one could be removed from the team or the captaincy by one single
individual selector. This thing will have far reaching effects on the
players not only of Central Zone but players all over India.''
