Curb orders imposed in East Godavari

RAJAHMANDRY: Police have promulgated prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC in all the villages in Kirlampudi mandal in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh in view of the proposed indefinite fast by Congress leader Mudragada Padmanabham from Thursday. A former TDP minister, Padmanabham's demands include withdrawal of cases against 13 persons who allegedly supplied food and vehicles to naxalites.

15 killed in Andhra mishap

HYDERABAD: Fifteen persons, including four women and three children, were killed when a sand-laden lorry collided with a jeep near Prajynapur village in Medak district early on Wednesday, police said here. The lorry was proceeding to Siddipet town, while the jeep was bound for Hyderabad, police said.

More vigil on Indo-Bangla border

AGARTALA: In the wake of air space violation by a mysterious aircraft on April 19, the Tripura Government has increased vigil along the state's border with Bangladesh. The state has promulgated prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC and imposed night curfew within a three km radius of the border.

Son kills father over land dispute

MUZAFFARNAGAR: A son gunned down his father over a dispute on ancestral land at Sojni village under Titawi Police Station, police said on Thursday. Karam Singh was shot dead by his son, Dharmvir Singh, after he refused to transfer the property on his son's demand. Police has registered a case against Dharmvir Singh.

Tripura ultras release CPM leader

AGARTALA: Underground tribal guerrillas in Tripura released CPI(M) Leader Swapan Baishnab on Thursday after holding him captive for 15 days. Police said ultras of the National Liberation Front of Tripura had shot dead CPI(M) leader Dharmapal Barua and kidnapped Baishnab on April 16 at Chawmanu in Dhalai district.

Orissa junior doctors call off strike

CUTTACK: About 1,200 junior doctors of three medical colleges of Orissa have called off their 10-day strike following a written assurance by the State Government on enhancement of their stipend. According to Dr P V S Kumar, Convenor of the Joint Action Committee, the State Government has agreed to raise the stipend of house surgeons from Rs 1,600 to Rs 1,800.

Crack force in UP to counter ISI

SIDDHARTHANAGAR: The Uttar Pradesh Government will soon constitute a special police force to check ISI activities on the Indo-Nepal border, S K Shukla, DIG of the newly created border range said. A high level meeting of the State Government and Nepalese officials was held on Wednesday to discuss the law and order situation.
