BMC `fails' students with very high marks

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

MUMBAI, May 2: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) education committee today decided, somewhat strangely, to fail students of the three BMC schools where mathematics and science papers of eighth and ninth standard final examinations had leaked. On the BMC hit-list were all those students whose final examinations marks were ``unreasonably higher'' than the marks obtained by them in their respective school internal and unit exams.

This decision will hit all the last-minute-muggers who believe in only studying during the last one month before their examinations.

According to the above decision, the marks of the students who appeared in the exams at the municipal schools at N M Joshi Marg, Byculla west and Nare Park in Parel will be compared with the marks obtained by them in their internal and unit exams.

If the difference in marks is found to be abnormally high, then they will be failed.

Incidentally, the reports of the leakage of the questions papers were obtained from almost all the municipal schools, but investigations carried out by the education department confirmed the incident in only the schools at N M Joshi Marg, Byculla west and Nare Park in Parel.

The paper leakage scam was unearthed by the Shiv Sena's youngest corporator Parag Chavan, who is also a member of the standing committee.
