Indian paddlers disappoint

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

LONDON, May 2: National women's champion M S Mythili went down tamely to Jing Jun Hong of Singapore in the first round of the singles event at the World Table Tennis Championships in Manchester today.

Mythili lost to Jing Hong in three straight games 21-15, 21-14, 21-7 to fall out of the individual event at the championships.

Even as Mythili fell, Indian team had nothing to cheer on the opening day of individual events as its two pairs in the mixed doubles event did not show up at the tables to pose any threat to their opponents who were awarded walkover in the first round of the event.

In the fourth quarter of the draw for mixed doubles, the Czech pair of Petr Korbel and Renata Strbikova beat Arjun Dutta and Poulami Ghatak through a walkover. South Korean pair of Chu-Kyo Sung and Suk Eun Mi received walkover as Arup Basak and Mauma Das did not turn up.
