Rs 11 crore plan to provide water to Vidharbha

NAGPUR, May 2: A comprehensive scheme to ensure water supply to towns and
villages in eastern Vidarbha which face acute scarcity, has been finalised
by the divisional administration. It will estimatedly cost Rs 11 crore.
The scheme was released by the Divisional Commissioner S Shahzad Hussain. It
provides Rs 10.03 crore for implementation of permanent projects like
pipe water supply, drilling of borewells and digging and deepening open
wells. Rs 92.69 lakhs have been provided for temporary water supply schemes
including tanker services. Another provision of Rs 2.07 crore has been made
for water supply schemes in 21 municipal towns.
These steps were taken as eastern Vidarbha had received scanty rainfall in
the last monsoon leading to acute scarcity in rural as well as in the urban
areas.
