MUMBAI, May 7: The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has
informed that water supply to areas like Thane, Taloja, Badlapur, Dombivali,
Ambernath, Belapur, Navi Mumbai and other villages in the areas will remain
closed on May 9 between 8 am and 6 pm as pre-monsoon maintenance work is
going to be carried out at the EHVT sub-station at Jambhul.
Gawli order to be challenged
Maharashtra government would appeal within a week in the Supreme Court
against the order of the Nagpur bench of Mumbai High Court directing the
release of underworld don Arun Gawli from detention under the National
Security Act (NSA), Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde said on Wednesday.
Munde, who holds additional charge of home portfolio, said there was no
question of re-arresting Gawli in view of the court verdict releasing him
unless some fresh case was registered. Neither would Gawli be arrested in
connection with the murder of mill owner Vallabbhai Thakkar as
investigations were still in progress, Munde said when asked if action would
be taken against Gawli as his men were believed to be involved in the
shooting last month.
Heroin seized from Zairean
A Zairean national has been detained by customs officials from a hotel in
Juhu following the seizure of three kgs of heroin, worth Rs 3 crore.
Commissioner of customs (preventive) S K Bhardwaj said the heroin was
concealed in 3 cloth bags, adding that the Zairean was to have left for
Nairobi by a Kenyan Airways flight on May three. He said investigations
revealed the seized heroin, which was of Pakistan origin, was procured from
Delhi.
PM to attend "Quit India" day
Prime Minister I K Gujral has accepted an invitation from the Maharashtra
government to attend the `Quit India' day function here on August nine in
the run-up to the celebrations of 50 years of independence. Deputy Chief
Minister Gopinath Munde said in view of the function at August Kranti
Maidan, Maharashtra would celebrate the golden jubilee of independence ahead
of other states . He said the invitation was extended to Gujral in New Delhi
on Tuesday. Chief Minister Manohar Joshi, accompanied by Munde, had made a
courtesy call on Gujral.
