Globalsport -- Fifa tosses woman out of men's team

PALMERSTON NORTH: Soccer's governing body Fifa has ordered a player to stop playing for a university team -- because she is a woman.

And the ruling is set to clash with New Zealand's human rights act which makes it illegal to discriminate on the basis of sex.

Hingis withdraws

STAMFORD: World No 1 Martina Hingis has withdrawn from next week's German Open in Berlin to give herself more time to heal from a knee injury, the WTA Tour announced yesterday.

Hingis suffered a slightly torn ligament in her left knee after falling from a horse on April 21 and doctors have recommended the Swiss sensation take another two weeks of rehabilitation, the Tour said in a statement.
