Mumbai Notes -- WR conducts raid at Borivli
MUMBAI, May 14: With a view to eliminate malpractice and to provide complaint free services, the Western Railway's Vigilance organisation in association with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) raided the computerised reservation centre at Borivli on Wednesday morning. During the raid, some objectionable things like few requisition slips, reserved tickets and also a sum of Rs 12,500 were detected from some reservation staff. The WR has decided to take strict disciplinary action against the defaulting staff and others involved. It will also investigate whether any nefarious link exists between the railway staff and touting elements and will make raids a regular feature. This was the first time the WR Vigilance sought the assistance of the CBI in raiding a railway premises. Officials pointed out that the inclusion of the CBI was necessary as there are chances of the involvement of anti-social elements who mastermind touting operations. Airmen selectionn THE Indian Air Force invites applications from unmarried male citizens for selection as airmen in the non-technical trades. The candidate should be a matriculate (or any other equivalent degree) and should be born between May 30, 1978 and November 30, 1981. Last date for applying is June 16, 1997. Dutch envoy Bastiaan R Korner, 54, will function as the acting Consul General of the Netherlands in Mumbai. He replaces Dirk Hasselman, who left in December 1996. Korner will officiate only upto September 1997. Before this assignment, he was Netherland's ambassador to Srilanka.
