CALCUTTA, May 14: Former national junior champion, Arjun Singh returned a card of 80 and was in the joint eighth position after the first round of the 19th Asia Pacific Junior Golf Championship at the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Manila.

Arjun started with a bang and was two-under after four holes with birdies in the third and fourth holes. However, disaster struck thereafter with five three-putts and one double bogey.

Chung Sung Han (Korea) 72, Hung Yu-Ling (Taiwan) 74 and Roy San Diego (Philipines) 75 were the leaders after the first round, according to information reaching here.

Silvers for Naresh

NEW DELHI: Naresh Kumar Sharma, a handicapped shooter, did India proud by winning three medals two silvers and a bronze in the 3rd Hessian International which concluded at Steibach (Germany) yesterday.

According to a message received by National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), Naresh Sharma won silver in air pistol scoring 559 out of 600 and in free pistol 519/600.

Sidhu's injury

NEW DELHI: Opener Navjot Sidhu's injured leg is expected to take about a week more to heal, doctors say.

Sidhu is suffering from haematoma, a muscle strain accompanied with blood clot, Dr Ashok Ahuja, head of the sports medicine department at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala, said. He injured his right leg during nets prior to the third one-dayer at St Vincent.

Sporting in final

PATNA: Mohammedan Sporting trounced Orissa Police, Cuttack, 4-1 to storm into the final of the East Zone qualifying rounds of the Kalyani Black Label Federation Cup football tournament here today. Strikers Somnath Pramanik and Sanjay Majhi struck two goals each for the winners.

They now clash with Tata Football Academy (TFA) in the final on May 16.

Modern tenth

NEW DELHI: Modern School, Delhi, finished tenth at the recently concluded Golf Foundation International School Boys Championship at Loch Lomond Golf Course near Glasgow. On the par 72 course Indians managed just 487 points, according to information received here from team manager Bikram Singh.

The Lycee Bellevue School team from France won the championship with the score of 451.
