New pay scales by June
The Committee of 11 Secretaries has cleared the decks for immediate implementation of new pay scales for Central Government employees. An increase of 30% in House Rent Allowance will come into force in November, this year, while a recommendation to increase age of superannuation from 58 to 60 years has been pushed aside for the moment.

Vice Presidents can now retire to a pension
Surprising as it may seem in this land of freebies, the Vice President of India does not get a pension. But the Lok Sabha rectified this by passing a bill assuring future Vice Presidents of a pension, accommodation for life, free air and rail travel and a host of other benefits.
