Kim's son quizzed in Korean bribery scandal

SEOUL, May 16: South korean President Kim Young-Sam's son was questioned on Thursday by state prosecutors for alleged involvement in a bribery scandal that has rocked his father's government. The questioning of Kim Hyun-Chul, 37, came amid indications that a four-month government investigation into the scandal was nearing an end with his arrest. In February, the President's second son was questioned and cleared of committing any wrongdoing. But this time, even before they quizzed him, prosecutors indicated they have evidence to bring bribery charges against him. Hyun-Chul is the first family member of an incumbent South Korean President facing possible criminal charges. If found guilty of bribery, he could be sentenced to up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $ 11,500. His arrest would seriously damage President Kim's ability to choose his ruling party's candidate for a presidential election in December. By law, Kim can not succeed himself.
