Jounalism award The Vasant J Sheth Memorial Foundation is awarding an award for excellence in shipping journalism. An amount of Rs 50,000 will be awarded to a journalist for outstanding articles on shipping related subjects appearing in a major newspaper or journal not before January 1997 and not later than January 1998. The nominated candidate should be under 35 years of age, and have published work in a major newspaper or journal. Apply before February 20, 1998 with biodata including details of educational qualifications and work experience, copes of published work on the subject with date and place of publication to Ms Asha V Sheth, Chairperson, Vasant J Sheth Memorial Foundation, Hongkong Bank building, 5th floor, 60 Mahatma Gandhi Road, Mumbai 400 001. Phone 267 4869 Fax 265 8311. Essay contest The Indian Association of Retired Persons has extended the last date of the essay contest captioned `21st century challenges to senior citizens'. The earlier last date of May 10 has been extended up to May 31. Summer specials To clear the heavy summer holiday rush towards Ratnagiri, the Konkan Railway (KR) will run 11 summer holiday specials from Kurla terminus up to June 16. The special express train runs every Monday and Saturday in a week. The train will stop at Thane, Diva, Panvel, Roha, Veer, Khed, Chiplun Sangmeshwar and Ratnagiri stations. Export award Strides Pharmaceuticals Limited received the National Export Award for outstanding export performance for the year 1995-96.
