Two state players knocked out

NEW DELHI, May 26: Two seeded players from Maharashtra -- third ranked Karan Doctor and fourth ranked Kedar Tambe -- crashed out in the first round of under-16 category in the Adidas Junior Masters Tennis Tournament here today.

Another seeded player to fall by the wayside was eighth seed Harnish Randhawa of Punjab in the under-14 category.

Unseeded Kedar Shah ousted his statemate Karan Doctor with relative ease 6-3, 6-3. Local player Arjun Shetty knocked out Kedar Tambe 6-3, 6-1.

Top seed Ravi Kiran Bhat (Karnataka) opened his campaign with a fluent 6-3, 6-0 win over Maharashtra's Alok Bhide. Second seed P Ravishankar (TN) dismissed another Karnataka player Siddharath Sharma 6-3, 6-2.

Fifth seed Abhijit Muzumdar (Maharashtra) routed statemate Neeraj Anand 6-3, 6-2, while the sixth seed Dipesh Rao overwhelmed Arpan Lakhani 6-3, 6-3 in an all-Maharashtra affair.

Seventh seed P Vishal had to fight it out before emerging winner against Sarbinder Singh of Chandigarh in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

In under 14 category, unseeded Sunil Kumar (Chandigarh) accounted for Harnish Randhawa 6-1, 6-2.

Top seed P Ravikrishnan (AP) warded off a stiff challenge from Delhi's Nikhil V Murali, after losing the first set to emerge winner 6-7 (7-5) 6-4, 6-2.

Second seed Ananth Sitaram also of Andhra Pradesh beat Chandershekhar Mohanty of Assam 7-5, 6-3.

Bengal's Vinod Sewa, seedced third, made short work of Tamil Nadu's Bharati Das 6-1, 6-1.

Fourth seed Pratim Parikh (Maharashtra) routed statemate Gabriel Fernandes 6-0, 6-1.

Fifth seed Rohan Gajjar (Maharashtra) overpowered Tamil Nadu's Chinna Kannan 6-3, 6-7 (7-5) 6-2 in a long drawn battle.

Sixth seed P Vishal (Delhi) downed J Prem Anand (TN) 6-2, 6-4. Seventh seed P S Bhattacharya (Delhi) drubbed Maharashtra's Vikram Ravi 6-0, 6-1.
