Ganguly, Venkatesh end up as losers

Coimbatore, May 26: It was a day of surprises in the ongoing National Children's Chess Championship organised by the Coimbatore District Chess Association at the PSG Tech auditorium here.

MR Venkatesh of Tamil Nadu, who won a marathon battle on Friday against Valay Parikh of Gujarat, was brought down to the floor by Arghyadip Das of Karnataka, the only Fide-rated player in the tournament, in 61 moves in the under-12 boys category, while third seed Prathamesh S. Mokal of Maharashtra subdued a fighting Suryasekhar Ganguly in under 94 moves in the under-14 section. Both players now top the table in their respective groups with five and half points (5.5) each at the end of six rounds.
