Textile mills facing closure, says Naik

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

NAGPUR, June 1: Four textile mills, a cooperative spinning mill in the region are on the verge of closure and a couple of more are facing serious crisis because of the faulty policies of the Central and State Government, alleged veteran trade union leader Haribhau Naik.

Closure of these mills would throw over 10,000 workers out of jobs, including 6,000 working in two city textile mills and a cooperative spinning mill, he said in a statement issued on Friday. He pointed out that production in the Weavers Cooperative Spinning Mill in city came to a halt about 10 months ago affecting the livelihood of about 1,200 employees.Naik said State Government's attention was drawn towards the precarious financial condition of the spinning mill. When the mill was closed workers and trade union leaders made repeated pleas after which Guardian Minister Nitin Gadkari came out with an assurance to look into the matter and to reopen it. But the minister, who has shown dynamism in taking up road concretisation work, made no serious attempts to move the government to revive the mill, Naik alleged.
