11 dead, 8 injured in multiple mishaps

MUMBAI, June 1: As many as 11 persons were killed on the spot and eight others seriously injured in three separate mishaps in Thane district today.Five persons were killed and four others injured when a jeep rammed into a tourist bus on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway near Kajli village in the district, police said.

The deceased have been identified as - Murlidhar Kute (35), Namdeo Mundhe (34), Sanjivani Kute (32), Bharati Pote (30) and jeep driver, Raghunath Badrike (23), police added.

The jeep was coming towards Mumbai and the bus was bound for Surat.The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Vapi, police said. They have been identified as - Hemlata Pote (45), Nanda Mundhe (29), Hitesh Mundhe (10) and Poonam Mundhe (9).

In another mishap, six persons were killed on the spot when the car in which they were travelling collided with a tanker on Kuksa-Borivli road in the district.

Out of the six casualties, four belonged to a family. The deceased have been identified as Jagdish Acharaya, Gita Acharaya, Yashkumar Acharya, Dipali Acharay, Hiteshkumar Raval and Visha lobo, the police said.

In the third accident four persons were injured when a Mumbai-Bhivandi bus slipped into a creek near Vikhroli in north-east Mumbai.

The injured were admitted to the nearby Rajawadi hospital, police added.
