Close shave for 368 on Saudi jumbo

CHENNAI: All the 351 passengers and 17 crew aboard a jumbo Saudi airliner had a providential escape today when the wide-bodied aircraft landed with a thud at an air force airfield ignoring cartridges fired by airmen. No passenger of the Saudia Boeing 737, which was on a flight from Riyadh to Chennai, was injured as the plane, instead of landing at Chennai international airport, touched down on a much shorter runway, at the IAF airfield, than needed for such a big aircraft and screeched to a halt causing its tyres to burst.

Gujral's expansion

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister I K Gujral, is likely to expand his council of ministers tomorrow in which representation for women is likely to be increased. The expansion, second by Gujral, is scheduled for 7 pm tomorrow.

Insat-2D launch

BANGALORE: India's communication satellite, Insat-2D, is set for launch on June four, with preparations for it completed at the launch site at Kourou, French Guyana. The launch is scheduled at 04.28 hrs IST on June 4 (22:58 hrs GMT on June 3).

CBSE results today

NEW DELHI: The results of class ten examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be declared on Tuesday, the CBSE said on Monday.
