Mahesh Bhupathi celebrated his 23rd birthday yesterday by becoming the first Indian ever to win a Grand Slam in the Open era, teaming up with Japan's Rika Hiraki to win the French Open mixed doubles. Bhupathi and Hiraki, seeded 16th, upset top-seeds Lisa Raymond and Patrick Galbraith of the United States 6-4, 6-1.

The State Trading Corporation (STC) plans to open a wholly-owned subsidiary in Russia by converting its representative office in Moscow into a vibrant trading entity through local incorporation. The subsidiary will be an independent company with its board of directors with sufficient representation from the STC.

Service-tax norms for customs house agents announced
The Union government has issued guidelines for levy of service tax on custom house agents and steamer agents which will come into effect from June 15. The service tax will be levied at the rate of 5% on the gross service charge and will be collected and enforced by the central excise commissionerates within their jurisdiction.
