LUCKNOW, June 8: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today categorically said the proposed ``halla bol'' agitation of Samajwadi Party will be dealt with a heavy hand.

Reacting sharply to Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Sing Yadav's call to launch an onslaught against the Bahujan Samaj Party-Bharatiya Janata Party government in the State, she said there would be no compromise on the issue of maintaining law and order. Anyone who tried to indulge in violence in the State should be ready to face the consequences, she declared while talking to reporters at her residence here.

Labelling Mulayam Singh Yadav as a frustrated leader, Mayawati said he seemed to have lost his sense of proportion. Yadav, she alleged, was out to disturb the peace in the State and her government would not allow him to do so, come what may.

The chief minister strongly refuted the allegations of Samajwadi Party that the transfers of officers had assumed the status of an industry in Uttar Pradesh. Transfers were being done purely on the basis of seniority and merit, she pointed out.

Yadav should come forward with concrete proof that there was exchange of money in transfers and postings, she said. All the transfers were done in order to maintain law and order in the State, she added. She also refuted the charge that Yadav and Muslim officers were being ignored and the Dalit officers were being given plum posting. Expressing satisfaction on the performance of her government, the chief minister said it was delivering the goods to the people.

She sought to clarify that there was no deliberate victimisation of the Samajwadi Party workers and leaders.

Any action taken against criminals was irrespective of their party allegiance, she informed.
