Planning body to discuss transfer of centrally aided schemes

NEW DELHI, June 8: The meeting of the full Planning Commission being held tomorrow to discuss various issues, includes the progress on the formulation of the ninth five-year-plan. Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral, who is also the chairperson of the commission, will preside over the meeting. It will be attended by Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Agriculture Minister Chaturanan Mishra. The other issues on the agenda include progress on the proposed transfer of centrally sponsored scheme along with funds to the states, the Gadgil-Mukherji formula on the allocation of central assistance to the states and the recommendations of the National Development Council (NDC) committee on power. In July, 1996 the state Chief Ministers, while discussing targetted approach to the basic minimum services, felt that the centrally sponsored schemes should be transferred to the states along with the funds for better implementation.
