PATNA, June 8: The Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary, A B Bardhan, today called for an emergent meeting of the United Front steering committee to discuss important issues including the presidential poll, proposed oil price hike and women's bill.

N K Seshan dead

NEW DELHII: N K Seshan, who was associated with three Indian prime ministers of the Nehru - Gandhi family, died here today. Seshan, 74,was late prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru's personal secretary till his death. He was also Indira Gandhi's private secretary. He had worked with Rajiv Gandhi for a brief while.
