TN Govt to supply 100 MW power to Kerala

CHENNAI, June 15: The Tamil Nadu government has agreed to supply 100 MW power (approximately 2.4 million units) every day from the state grid to Kerala for two weeks to tide over the power crisis there.

Speaking to The Indian Express at his residence on Sunday morning soon after the meeting with the ministerial team from Kerala, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said the supply had been agreed to ``subject to the condition that the Kerala Government pressurised the Centre to caution Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka against overdrawal from the Central power pool''. The supply of the 100 MW power from Tamil Nadu will take place with immediate effect, he added. ``I will make a request to Andhra Pradesh Minister Chandra Babu Naidu (regarding the overdrawal),'' he said.

The Chief Minister had met the ministerial team from Kerala, comprising Finance and Excise Minister, holding additional charge of Electricity, Sivadasa Menon, Irrigation Minister Baby John and Food Minister T. Chandrasekaran Nair, at his residence. Also present at the meeting were Electricity Minister Arcot Veerasamy, TN Electricity Board Chairman Om Kumar and Energy Secretary Susan Mathew .
