Officials impeding govt machinery, says Joshi

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

AURANGABAD, June 18: Chief Minister Manohar Joshi on Monday alleged that government officials were undoing all the good work done by his cabinet.Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the training centre for Class II and Class III employees at the Jayakwadi guest house at Paithan, the CM said, ``The people want Shiv Shahi in power, whether you wish for it or not.''

Recalling the words of former chief minister Yashwantrao Chavan, Joshi remarked that government officials seemed to be heading for different directions instead of working in tandem. He alleged that officers were still following pre-independence norms with their minds set against public interest. Joshi warned that he would not spare anybody neglecting their duty.

The Chief Minister lamented that most government officials were unaware of the various policies declared by his government concerning agriculture and education. Instead of implementing the policies, the government machinery created hurdles, Joshi said.

Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde said he had seen many strange things in Mantralaya. Citing the case where files were marked `urgent, most urgent or ordinary' according to the whims and fancies of the officials, Munde remarked that even the most urgent files sometimes took two months to reach his table.
