MUMBAI, June 20: An accused in an attempt to murder case hanged himself in police lockup in Sahapur, Thane on Monday.

Sunil Bandu Bhosale (21), a resident of Panchgaon of Varora taluka of Chandrapur district, was arrested by the Thane rural police along with two others. He hanged himself with the piece of chadder provided to him at around 11 pm, the police said.

The district superintendent of police A T Kamte told that Bhosale, along with his associates, Suresh Vasant Pawar and Anuraja Nansu Bhosale, had assaulted Pradip Mukne, a hotel boy , who was repeatedly stabbed .

The trio, all from Phasepardhi community, was arrested the same day by the police who recovered a sum of Rs. 16,000, a chopper and other weapons.
