About 33 nomination papers were filed today, but only those of Narayanan, Seshan and three others -- Narendranath Dubey Adik, Madhavender Kumar Sharma and Mithilesh Kumar -- were found to be in order with the mandatory 50 proposers and seconders each.

The BJP top brass today filed a set of nomination papers supporting Narayanan's candidature. Senior BJP leaders Atal Behari Vajpayee and Murli Manohar Joshi were among those who proposed Narayanan's name for the country's highest office.
