Quicktakes -- Hazarika offers talks with ultras


GUWAHATI: Noted singer and music director, Dr Bhupen Hazarika, has wished to mediate with the extremist groups to solve the insurgency problem in the region. ``I am familiar with the political situations in the state,'' Hazarika, said in an interview telecast in the local Doordarshan here today.

Hudco to help

JABALPUR: Chairman and managing director of Housing and Urban Development Corporation (Hudco) V Suresh today said Hudco would give loans of over Rs 144.25 crore for reconstruction of houses damaged during the May 22 earthquake. Suresh said the loans would be in addition to the state government grant of Rs 40.25 crore for the same purpose.

No review of SSP

BARODA: Gujarat Chief Minister Shankersinh Vaghela has come down heavily on those demanding a review of the Sardar Sarovar Project in the wake of the recent earthquake that hit Jabalpur. Vaghela said that there was no need for raising an alarm on the feasibility of SSP as investigations had been carried out before the project was approved.
