EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, June 23: Rashtra Chetna, a city-based organisation has organised an exhibition of 1000 photographs of freedom fighters and revolutionaries at the Veer Savarkar Kendra at Vile Parle (E), to mark the 50th year of the country's independence. The exhibition opened on Friday, 20 June will be on till June 29. It will be shown at the Sena Bhavan on June 30. Talking to Express Newsline, trustee of the organisation, Kiran Paigankar said that they will be ready to exhibit the pictures in any school or college. Some of the rare pictures at the exhibition are those of Sardar Udham Singh, who was hanged in Pentonville in London for killing Michael O'Dwyer, the man who allegedly instigated Gen Dyer for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, 21 years after the gruesome incident took place. He was hanged on July 31, 1940. Among the other rare pictures are one of Batukeshwar Dutt, on his death bed, sentenced to life imprisonment for the Central Assembly bombing case. ``Sure leaders like Gandhi and Nehru fought for our freedom. But they were not the only ones. There were people like Madanlal Dhingra, who on being sentenced to death said he was proud to die for the country. Who is saying that today?'' asks Paigankar. ``We are even ready to take the pictures to the other schools, if they call us,'' he added.
