Mumbai Notes -- CR recruitment talks deadlocked

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

MUMBAI, June 23: The stalemate over the recruitment of nearly 700 trade apprentices in the CR continues as talks with the General Manager failed to resolve the issue. MP Mohan Rawale, who had a meeting with the GM N C Sinha today evening, said the Shiv Sena will soon declare an agitation which will close down the CR for an entire day. The apprentices who are jobless for the last seven years had demanded that they be absorbed in the regular cadre. Sinha assured the delegation that the competent railway authority will give preference to those apprentices out of the 700 in question, in all jobs who fulfil the railway's criteria. ``However, the GM said he will have to review the situation since all the 700 apprentices cannot be taken at one go,'' said Rawale. Officials added that out of the 700, 98 apprentices who fulfil the requirements have been empanelled by the CR and action will be taken regarding their employment after Sunday, June 29, 1997.
