Stay on demolitions

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

June 25: The state government has granted a temporary stay on demolition of illegal slums in the city on humanitarian grounds.

However, demolitions of illegal construction by private contractors will continue, an official release said on Wednesday.

The notice to this effect has already been issued to the officials concerned in a view to curb the illegal encroachments of government, semi-government and private lands by building the illegal constructions on it, the press release said.

The stay has been granted by the government till September this year on humanitarian grounds as several families would have been rendered homeless due to monsoon, the release said.

The illegal constructions which are coming up on the pretext of rains would be strictly dealt with and razed to grounds immediately, it added.
