PWD seeks loan from Nabard for tarring roads

MUMBAI, June 25: The Public Works Department (PWD) has sought a Rs 300 crore loan from NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) for tarring of roads in the rural areas of the state. PWD minister Nitin Gadkari told mediapersons today that the department had presented a proposal for the amount on a reimbursement basis. The minister said that good roads would attract more investments.

The department has also decided to rope in NGOs for an ambitious tree plantation scheme along major roads in the state. Gadkari said that about a thousand trees will be planted every year. The emphasis would be on maintenance of the trees, which was neglected , he added.
