Jayasankar's achievement

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

Chennai, June 25: The 29-year-old Jayasankar Menon achieved what no Indian basketballer has ever before when he donned the Asian All Star colours in the FILA-sponsored Asian Basketball Confederation All Star Extravaganza, a match against South Korea at the Olympic Gym, Seoul, on June 21.

A veteran of four Asian Championships and skipper of the last one, the Indian Bank officer who usually plays Position 4 (power forward) in international matches, had to play centre in their 93-118 loss.

Jayasankar was the third highest rebounder. Jordan's Zaid Alkhas emerged All Stars's star performer with 25 points and 16 rebounds, while centre Seo Jong-Hoon, with 41 points and 17 rebounds, top-scored for S Korea.
