Ashok Jain to be grilled at AIIMS

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

NEW DELHI, July 1: The Enforcement Directorate has been asked by a Delhi Court to interrogate media baron Ashok Jain, at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for alleged FERA violations.

In a hearing on the anticipatory bail petition filed by Jain, Additional Sessions Judge B B Choudhury said that he should be shifted to AIIMS from Apollo Hospital where he is currently admitted.

Jain, who heads the Times of India Group, had been examined by a panel of two AIIMS doctors Dr K K Talwar, professor of cardiology and Dr Rajiv Agrawal, Asst Prof Cardiology, earlier to establish whether he was well enough to be interrogated. The panel had been set up after the direction of Additional Sessions Judge N K Goyal last week.

In their report submitted to the court today, the doctors said that Jain, ``needs regular medical treatment at present and may need further angiography if symptoms are not adequately controlled.'' The report further said the debutamine stress test carried out by the doctors, ``is inconclusive to give any opinion regarding progression of the (heart) disease since the last exercise evaluation.''

In its petition to the court, ED had said that Jain was not co-operating with it and had not responded to eight summons.

The next hearing on the anticipatory bail petition of Jain has been adjourned till July 8.
