AHMEDABAD, July 1: Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi today demanded that the Central government should sanction Rs 1,000 crore for relief works in flood-hit Gujarat.

Talking to mediapersons here, Joshi said the Rs 55 crore sanctioned was insufficient to compensate the widespread damage caused by floods. Damage to property and livestock could be as high as Rs 500 crore in Mehsana district alone, he said. He said more than 1,000 houses were destroyed and carcasses of 1,000 cattle that perished were stinking as the villages were still submerged in water.y
