CHENNAI, July 4: Though the State-wide bandh called by the Dalit organisations in TN evoked poor response, stray incidents of violence were reported in several parts of the city and the adjoining district of Kancheepuram. Protesters set fire to twelve State transport corporation buses. Some 3,200 people were taken into preventive custody. It might be noted that the bandh was called to protest the killing of 6 dalits from the Melavalavu village near Madurai.
