WIMBLEDON, July 6: Pete Sampras is once again haunted by pain and despair. During the course of the Wimbledon championships, he learned that the man he regards as his second father, has been arrested on charges of child molestation. Paediatrician Pete Fischer, who was Sampras' coach and mentor from nine to 18, has been accused of sexually molesting a 14-year-old male patient. This latest blow comes after the recent death of his coach and best pal, Tim Gullikson.

Sampras has promised to stand by Fischer and will act as a character witness when the case goes on trial later this year. Sampras' latest girlfriend, Kimberely Williams, has provided the warmth and affection he needs to overcome one more turbulent episode. Dark-haired Kimberely, who starred in the movie Father of the Bride, along with comedian Steve Martin, has filled the void.
