Mansher wins, but Anwar impresses
Express News Service
New Delhi, July 6: Mansher Singh finished on top of the pack in the second trial, just like he did in the first one earlier this week, but the shooter to attract most attention was Anwar Sultan. The shooter from Shyamolie, in Haryana, who comes to Delhi to practise and compete, shot an excellent 48 out of 50 on the last day of the trials to finish with 115 in the second trial. He had a 67 on the first day. That should ensure him a place in the Indian team for the Asian Clay Shooting Championships in Brunei next month. Mansher, with 22 and 22 in the two cards shot today, was two points ahead of Sultan. Mansher followed his first day's 73 with 44 today. Teenager Zorawar Singh was in a poor form, but nevertheless managed to finish third. The lad who was second in the first trials, shot 20 and 21 in the two cards for a score of 112. The NRAI which is expected to announce the team soon should have no problems about selecting the top three, which should be Mansher, Anwar Sultan and Zorawar Singh, but it now remains to be seen who among Moraad, Manavjit and Anirudh they send in addition. In skeet, yesterday's leaders Rao Inderjeet Singh and Hari Simran Sandhu had poor scores on Sunday. Inderjeet Singh shot 20 and 20 in his two cards for a total of 108 after his excellent 68 out of 75 on the first day. Sandhu began well with a 23 and then slumped to 19 in the last card and he, too, finished with 108 after having a 66 on Saturday. The trials was won by PS Sodhi who made up for his poor first day, when he had only 62 out of 75, with 23 and 24 for a total of 109. Ranavjit Nobis finished with 98 and Rahul Roy with 96.
