DNA fingerprinting not a distant possibility


COIMBATORE, July 6: The Human Genome Project inaugurated in 1988 has two objectives - namely, to identify and map the locations of individual human genes and to sequence the estimated three billion pieces of molecular information that make up the code script of human life, according to S Sadasivam, Director of the Centre for Plant Molecular Biology. Speaking on Genetic Engineering at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, he said molecular pharming, by which plants could be made to produce chemicals with pharmaceutical values, is the latest advancement in genetic engineering.
