VHP holds dharna against police inaction

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

July 10: Over 200 members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) staged a dharna outside Dharavi police station early today morning demanding the immediate arrest of killers of their fellow VHP worker Shyam Nanduskar.Nanduskar was brutally killed five months ago. Failure of the police to nab his murderers ultimately drove his 42-year-old wife Arunabai to kill herself on Wednesday.

Arunabai had been pursuing the police for the last five months to spur them into action against her husband's killers. She finally hung herself to death at her residence at K N Nagar, Dharavi at 6 p.m. Immediately after that, VHP workers, in a morbid show of protest, took her body to the Dharavi police station and held a dharna till 2 a.m. The body was then sent for a post mortem at Rajawadi hospital.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone VI), Sanjay Barve, said four of the main accused in the case have been arrested and attempts are being made to nab the rest. The Dharavi police has registered a case of suicide.
