[Details] They used to be the ones who wandered into the studio a couple of hours before the news went on air, put on their make-up, bid viewers a cheery "good evening, the headlines...", and then guided them through the events of the day, ending with a "see you tomorrow" -- or words to that effect.

[Details] Back in 1969-70, a young lady joined the Journalism course at the New Delhi Polytechnic--just because it was the shortest course available. Today, that same lady runs two syndicated columns, one of which has been recently grabbed by India's most recent weekly.

Is TV only trash?

[Details] We like to think of television as trash. People (as opposed to the masses), intelligent people with discerning tastes, don't watch television. Unless, it's a cricket match, BBC or a news bulletin. Of course, the height of political correctness is to say that if Doordarshan is the bottom, Discovery is the tops.
