Gujarat scribes hold dharna
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
AHMEDABAD, July 15: Jounalists sat on a day-long dharna here on Monday to protest against the increasing attacks on mediapersons in the recent times in Gujarat. A scribe was killed in Amreli district and two others were severely beaten up in Bulsar district last week. The journalists were reportedly attacked by anti-socials for writing about the nexus between criminals, policemen and polticians, the protestors said. They sought punitive action against the attackers and demanded that law be enacted making information a right for the citizens. Meanwhile, the main accused in last week's assault on scribes at Killa Pardi township in Bulsar district, was arrested alongwith a gram panchayat member yesterday. Police today said the arrested, a bootlegger, Bachu Patel and a member of the Umarsadi Gram Panchayat, Ashok Patel, were remanded to police custody.
