Move to influence Hawala bench, says Chief Justice
The Chief Justice of India, J S Verma, who heads the bench monitoring the hawala case, said the judges were under pressure to withdraw from the case but declared that the court would not be deterred. This unprecedented statement came at the outset of the hearing of amicus curiae Anil Divan's petition challenging the transfer of former CBI director Joginder Singh.

New policy proposal to allow CKD/SKD car kits as components with lower duty
The Union cabinet is expected to consider a proposal to amend the policy governing automobile imports in CKD/SKD condition. Under the proposal, car kits, even if brought in as CKD/SKD kits, will be treated as "components" instead of "complete vehicles".
SC bars transfer of disputed Mafatlal Industries shares
The Supreme Court has barred Mafatlal Industries from transferring to third parties any of the shares issued under a disputed 1987 rights issue. The order was given in a special leave petition filed by Mafatlal Industries against Miheer Mafatlal, Arvind Mafatlal's nephew.
Centre to infuse Rs 300-cr to breathe life into ailing Uco Bank
The Centre plans to infuse around Rs 300 crore into the ailing United Commercial Bank (Uco) to help it maintain the mandated capital adequacy ratio of 8%. The bank has also drawn a three year strategic revival plan which has been accepted by the Union finance ministry and the Reserve Bank of India.

5-member team sets sail to tie up WB loan for coal sector
A five-member delegation led by Coal India (CIL) chairman PK Sengupta is set to represent India in the final round of negotiations for a $1.06-billion (Rs 3,800 crore) World Bank loan to the domestic coal sector. The negotiations are slated for July 17 in Washington.
