Mumbai notes -- Puppetry workshop

July 17: A three day puppetry workshop has been organised by Media Matters from July 29 to July 31. Its objective is to understand the art and technique of puppetry and explore the possibilities of using it as an effective medium of communication. Participants will be introduced to various skills like making puppets, using waste material, developing stories, songs, music and backdrops. MSEB board The State government has appointed S V Deo as a technical member of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) on Wednesday. Deo was previously a technical director for the district board. He is an expert in the field of transmission and distribution of electricity. BA flights British Airways flights from Heathrow to Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta and Chennai have resumed normal operations following the end of the 72-hour British Stewards and Stewardesses Association (BASSA) strike last week. Nuke conference Indian Nuclear Society (INS) has organised a five day-long conference from July 21 at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. Titled `Problems and Prospects for Nuclear Energy in Developing Countries', it will be attended by 600 experts from India, USA, Russia, Korea, Canada, Egypt and Kazaksthan. The conference is expected to enable exchange of information and evolve ideas on how to achieve economic and environment-friendly electric power from atomic resources. Colombian ship The Colombian ship, Gloria, is arriving on a three-day visit to Mumbai from July 19. On Saturday the commanding officer of the ship David R Merone will call on the rear Admiral Raman Puri, flag officer commanding Maharashtra naval area.
