MUMBAI, July 17: Aditya Mahagaonkar confirmed his top billing in the sub-junior boys' category beating Samik Pal 21-11, 21-7, 21-10 in the finals of the Mumbai Subarban District table tennis tournament organised by the Namrata Sports Association at the Andheri Sports Complex here today. Unseeded Shivam Nayak took the cadet boys' title, giving an indication of his potential with a 18-21, 21-11, 21-17 win over top-seeded Sujan Narvekar. Mallika Parekh expectedly claimed the sub-junior girls' crown, getting better of an upcoming third seed Sherry Crawford 21-11, 21-11, 21-6.Twelve-year-old Mahagaonkar kept up his winning streak that has fetched the Hansraj Mortage Public school student his fourth successive sub-junior title this season. Mahagaonkar's ability to attack when required won the day, although the champion preferred to ``run the ball'' most of the time. His opponent Samik floundered when it came to blocking Mahagaonkar's heavy spin. Mahagaonkar, well in control, was never in difficulty as he added to the Kolhapur, Mulund and Ghatkopar Gymkhana titles he won earlier this season. Shivam's loss to Narvekar in the Ghatkopar Open semis taught the 11-year-old Arya Vidya Mandir student a great deal. This time around, he allowed the top-seed Narvekar to attack a strategy that paid rich dividends. Narvekar erred repeatedly and his inability to move hardly helped. After losing the first game, Shivam improved his service and it was especially the return that had Narvekar in trouble. Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers completed a double with the men's team's success, adding to the women's title yesterday. RCF scored over Central Bank of India 3-2 in a taut interesting contest.
