TN CM breaks vow not to use plane bought by Jaya
CHENNAI, July 17: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who vowed never to use the Cessna aircraft purchased by the State Government during the previous Jayalalitha regime, has travelled by it three times during the last fortnight. The CM's latest trip on the aircraft was to New Delhi today, to attend the UF Steering Committee meeting. He returned by the same plane. TMC leader G K Moopanar, who also attended the meet, travelled by a scheduled IA flight. The DMK administration had placed on record in the State Assembly the huge expenses incurred in the upkeep of the aircraft, one of the latest in the world, and said it proposed to sell it and buy 20 ambulances with the proceeds. There were, however, apparantly no takers for the aircraft, purchased for Rs 20 crore by the Jayalalitha administration. Copyright © 1997 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
