Global sport -- Komen sets WR in 2000m
HECHTEL: Kenyan Daniel Komen set a new World Record best of 7 min 58.61sec over two miles at Athletics Meeting here on Saturday. Komen, who also hold the world record for the 3,000 metres, easily bettered the previous record of 8:01.0 set by Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie on May 31. Komen said he was hoping to record a time of ``12 (minutes) 34 or 35 (seconds)'' in the 5,000 at the World Athletic Championships in Athens next month. Gebreselassie is also the current world record holder over that distance with a time of 12:44.39 set in 1995. Bailey's third win in Canadian T&F ABBOTSFORD: Olympic champion Donovan Bailey won his third 100-metre title in the Canadian Track and Field Championships on Saturday, finishing in 10.03 seconds. Bailey, who set the world record of 9.84 seconds last summer in the Atlanta Olympics, is preparing to defend his title in the World Championships early next month in Athens, Greece. Robert Esmie was second in 10.10 and Bruny Surin third in 10.15. Susanti wins Indonesian Open title SOLO: Olympic Gold medallist Susi Susanti on Sunday scored her sixth Indonesia Open victory by effortlessly thrashing the country's rising hope Meiluawati 11-4, 11-5. Susanti's win in the championship was achieved without any serious challenge as players from China were absent from the this year.
